And so it begins. . .

In the beginning there was darkness. . .

A blank canvas.

An empty word document with the blinking bar.

A paper with no words.

A sketch book with no ideas.

This has to be one of the worst things an artist or writer could face. I faced these foes many times, fought many battles and lost quite a few to sulk away and lick my wounds (ie. paper cuts and bruises from smacking my head against a wall) only to come back and smite my enemy down to the farthest reaches of creativitydom.

That's how I felt trying to come up with a name and title for this blog. Insert music of doom here and perhaps Alfred's Hitchcock's Psycho theme.

Sure I could have kept it simple and said: Sonia's Art Blog. Period.

Not exactly an eyebrow raiser.

I wanted something witty, something fun, something that spoke of me and may speak to other artists, writers or bored readers of the blogspehere. Perhaps, more like something that I want to do or want to be (more on that later. haha. I will lure you in yet)

The Hungry Artist.   Starving Artist was already taken and thankfully I am not exactly starving, except when it comes to time. Not enough hours in a day to get what I want done when I hold a full time job and tire easily.

I hunger for the old world of art nouveau like that of Mucha and Klimt, for the raw passion of works by Munch, Picasso, Renoir, and with a great heaping of Frida Khalo, Marie Cassat, Lisa Yuskavaga and Amy Adler.

I want to sink my teeth into the works of Bramstroker, Shelly and Byron.  To be lost in the world of Tolkien and join in on the adventures in the Never Ending Story and the Last Unicorn and Watership Down.  I want to feel the heat, excitement and passion in books by Jim Butcher, Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs.

I hunger for my words to be able to bring those emotions out in others. For my work to ellicit desire, excitement, lust and angst whether it be by word or image. I want people to hunger for more and I want to be able to deliver it. I want it so bad that it hurts. It makes me scream and sends my husband and cats cowaring under the bed as canvas, papers and computer monitors fly.

This blog is about me. An artist/writer and my passion to create.  If you so desire, join me while I post on my happenings in the creative field. Follow me while fumble over terrible grammar, while I get rejection letters all while searching for the elusive one that screams 'yes! we'll take your book!'. Or  be like me and hope for the best at art shows while I wall flower in my social awkwardness in the corner.

If I haven't bored you to tears yet come back soon for pictures of my work and my up coming events and just what's happening in my life of creativity.
